Rickettsia slovaca Infection: DEBONEL/TIBOLA
ProducciĂłn CientĂficaThis study describes the epidemiological, clinical, and microbiological characteristics of a new tick-borne disease in SpainâDermacentor-borne necrosis erythema lymphadenopathy (DEBONEL). The clinical presentations include an eschar at the site of the tick bite, surrounded by an erythema and painful regional lymphadenopathy. The disease appears during the colder months and its vector is Dermacentor marginatus (D. marginatus). From January 1990 to December 2004, 54 patients presented at Hospital of La Rioja with these clinical and epidemiological data. The ratio of females to males was 32/22. The average age was 37 years. In all cases tick bites were located on the upper body (90% on the scalp). The median incubation period was 4.7 days. Signs and symptoms were mild in all cases. Only a small number of patients presented mild and nonspecific abnormalities in a complete blood cell count and mild elevation of erythrocyte sedimentation rates and C-protein reactive and liver enzyme levels. Serological evidence of acute rickettsiosis was observed in 19 patients (61%). In 29% sera tested by polymerase chain reactions (PCRs) were positive. The sequence obtained from a PCR product revealed 98% identity with Rickettsia sp. strains RpA4, DnS14, and DnS28. All ticks removed from patients were PCR-positive. Sequencing showed 8 of them identified as R. slovaca and 2 as Rickettsia sp. strains RpA4, DnS14, and DnS28
Surveillance of a pest through a public health information system: The case of the blackfly (simulium erythrocephalum) in zaragoza (Spain) during 2009â2015
Background: Animals and people in many Spanish regions are increasingly being affected by blackfly bites in the last decade. Because of blackflies, the city of Zaragoza has become in recent years a paradigm of discomfort in Europe, with thousands of citizens affected. The OMI-AP system (Stacks, Barcelona, Spain) implemented by the Government of AragĂłn, a software that manages the electronic medical history of all patients, has been evaluated in order to document the increase of insect bite recorded by the primary care consultations in Zaragoza after the first outbreak of blackflies occurred in 2011.
Methods: An observational, ecological and longitudinal study of insect bites recorded at the primary care consultations was carried out in primary care during the period 2009â2015.
Results: The incidence of medical consultations by insect bites in Basic Health Areas (BHA) near to rivers is higher than the furthest BHA. Rural BHA are more affected by insect bites than the urban ones. The increase of medical assistance due to insect bites in Zaragoza since 2011 is correlated with the blackflies bites.
Conclusions: This tool was very useful to describe the initial stage of this public health problem. It could be used for guiding public health responses in terms of surveillance and management of this pest
THE "FREELY" FALLING TWO-LEVEL ATOM IN A RUNNING LASER WAVE
The time evolution of a two-level atom which is simultaneously exposed to the
field of a running laser wave and a homogeneous gravitational field is studied.
The result of the coupled dynamics of internal transitions and center-of-mass
motion is worked out exactly. Neglecting spontaneous emission and performing
the rotating wave approximation we derive the complete time evolution operator
in an algebraical way by using commutation relations. The result is discussed
with respect to the physical implications. In particular the long time and
short time behaviour is physically analyzed in detail. The breakdown of the
Magnus perturbation expansion is shown.Comment: 14 Pages, Late
Rota-Baxter algebras and new combinatorial identities
The word problem for an arbitrary associative Rota-Baxter algebra is solved.
This leads to a noncommutative generalization of the classical Spitzer
identities. Links to other combinatorial aspects, particularly of interest in
physics, are indicated.Comment: 8 pages, improved versio
Generalized Jacobi identities and ball-box theorem for horizontally regular vector fields
We consider a family of vector fields and we assume a horizontal regularity
on their derivatives. We discuss the notion of commutator showing that
different definitions agree. We apply our results to the proof of a ball-box
theorem and Poincar\'e inequality for nonsmooth H\"ormander vector fields.Comment: arXiv admin note: material from arXiv:1106.2410v1, now three separate

Hemodynamic performance of different stent strategies for coronary bifurcations. Evaluation with a mathematical model
Purpose: Best percutaneous treatment strategy for lesions in coronary bifurcations is an ongoing subject of debate. There is limited data that analyses the effect of the different bifurcation strategies on coronary flow. Our aim is to evaluate the influence of different bifurcation stenting strategies on hemodynamic parameters, both in the main vessel (MV) and side branch (SB)
Heat kernel regularization of the effective action for stochastic reaction-diffusion equations
The presence of fluctuations and non-linear interactions can lead to scale
dependence in the parameters appearing in stochastic differential equations.
Stochastic dynamics can be formulated in terms of functional integrals. In this
paper we apply the heat kernel method to study the short distance
renormalizability of a stochastic (polynomial) reaction-diffusion equation with
real additive noise. We calculate the one-loop {\emph{effective action}} and
its ultraviolet scale dependent divergences. We show that for white noise a
polynomial reaction-diffusion equation is one-loop {\emph{finite}} in and
, and is one-loop renormalizable in and space dimensions. We
obtain the one-loop renormalization group equations and find they run with
scale only in .Comment: 21 pages, uses ReV-TeX 3.
Incidence of human granulocytic anaplasmosis in returning travellers with fever.
Although tick-borne pathogens have been reported as an important cause of imported fever, the incidence of Anaplasma phagocytophilum, the causative agent of human granulocytic anaplasmosis (HGA), in travellers is unknown.
We conducted a prospective cohort study to investigate the aetiologies of fever in returning travellers (November 2017-July 2019). Polymerase chain reaction for msp2 gene amplification and indirect immunofluorescence assay for A. phagocitophilum were performed in all returning travellers with undifferentiated non-malarial fever.
Among 141 travellers included, 8 patients were diagnosed with probable or confirmed HGA. The overall incidence rate of HGA was 19.9 cases/1000 person-week of travel. The main destination of travel was Asia, accounting for 62.5% patients with HGA. Co-infections were found in 37.5% of patients with HGA.
Diagnosis of HGA and empirical treatment with doxycycline should be considered in travellers with fever
